Maritime Museum

Hi Bloggers,

The other day the Den went to the Maritime Museum!

It was lots of fun!

We sailed under the harbour bridge on a boat called Ted Ashby, we saw some people bungy jumping.

In the museum we learnt about how people found New Zealand.

Room 21 saw the cannon being fired it was really loud!

Did you see the cannon being fired and on a scale to 1 to 10 how loud was it?

Explanation Writing

Hi Bloggers,

This is my Explanation Writing we were informing people about How Bees Make Honey.

Hope you like it!

Have you ever wondered how bees make that sweet sticky honey? Well if you read this text you will find out.

First, adult female worker bees leave their hive insearch of nectar. Once they find a flower they use their proboscis (straw like tongue) to slurp up all the nectar in the flower. When they get the nectar they store it in their crop (a special honey stomach).

Then, the bees return to the hive with the nectar in their crop then they regurgitate the honey and give it to a younger worker bee. Inside the younger worker bee’s crop a chemical called enzyme mixes with the nectar making it thicker and slowly turning into honey. They repeat the process until the nectar is thick enough.

Finally, the worker bee puts the thick nectar into a honeycomb. Then they beat their wings around the honeycomb to get most of the moisture out of the nectar. Once most of the moisture is out they seal the honeycomb with some beeswax to keep the newly made honey fresh.

So next time you eat honey just remember all the hard work that has gone into your favourite sweet spread and maybe just forget that all that sweet sticky honey is bees vomit!

Did you know this was how bees made honey?

Novel ponder 9

Hi Bloggers,

If I could be any animal I would be a red panda because they are so cute and fluffy and they are also great climbers and it would be so fun to climb up in the trees as a red panda.

What animal would you be and why?

Quick write

Hi Bloggers,

This is my quick write hope you like it.

Sami and Joe were out for a walk when they saw a little dog in the canal “Wow check out that dog in the canal it looks like it needs saving,” remarced Joe.

“Do you think we should help him,” questioned Sami.

“Yes definitely,” replied Joe.

The boys ran over to the edge of the canal and peard down at the dog it looked to be on the edge of drowning. “I think one of us should hold on to the edge and the other one should hold on to the first person and then reach down and grab the dog,” wondered Sami.

The boys gave Sami’s idea a go but they just couldn’t reach it.  They decided to hold on to a lunch box in between them so they could reach. “Just a bit lower and I can grab him,” shouted Sami.

“We are getting down to the last straw,” strained Joe.

“Got him, now quick pull him me up,” replied Sami.

Once the boys got back on their feet they celebrated as the puppy licked their faces.

Can you see any mistakes?
